Overland is looking to expand its team of fiction and poetry readers, and to start a team of nonfiction readers. Our readers are invaluable in helping us select the work Overland goes on to publish, and, importantly, these volunteer positions only require a time commitment of a few hours per month. As all Overland submissions are read and assessed online, the applicant can be based anywhere in Australia and New Zealand. Readers can expect to be assigned between five and ten stories, poems or essays per month, and will be asked to assess whether each piece is/is not suitable for publication in Overland. Readers will liaise closely with relevant Overland editors. Applicants will be Overland subscribers with sufficient familiarity with the journal to identify writing that suits the magazine. They will also have a keen interest in contemporary fiction and/or poetry and/or nonfiction. How to apply Please submit up to one page describing your previous writing and editing experience (this is an emerging opportunity, so doesn’t need to be long or comprehensive or a CV), and one or two paragraphs as to why you are the right person for the position. Don’t forget to nominate whether you are applying to be a fiction, poetry or nonfiction reader. Applications close 11.59 pm Friday 30 November 2018.
