Published 25 February 202625 February 2026 · Main Posts The Inaugural Overland Readers’ Survey Editorial team For a long time now, Overland has owed its success to our incredible community of contributors, subscribers and supporters. And in the last two years in particular, we have felt your staunch support for our mission of speaking truth to power and amplifying the marginal and under-represented voices that are increasingly being silenced in the current neo-fascist climate. In recent years, the reduction in arts grants funding and increase in production costs have put significant strain on Overland‘s finances. Although we have already implemented some measures to address this—such as converting our quarterly publication to triennially—the journal’s finances remain in a critical state and Overland‘s long-term survival is under threat. As such, Overland is currently looking at a number of measures to ensure the journal’s survival. These include the search for new philanthropic support and launching some exciting new projects (watch this space!), as well as increasing our subscription prices. This is where you come in. As a small but ambitious publication, we are often thinking about how we can best support and serve our community while growing our subscriber base. Yet, we don’t want Overland to simply be a product that people consume; we want to understand who exactly is reading us, where you’re located, and how we can better connect with your interests and curiosities. We understand many are doing it tough with the cost of living, and we would not be considering increased subscription prices if it wasn’t necessary to ensure Overland can survive. We will continue to offer a discounted $50/year price for pensioners and the unwaged. So please, tell us your thoughts. Are you able to continue supporting Overland were we to increase our prices? What do you like or dislike about Overland? What do you wish to see more of? There is the option for anonymity if that’s something you’re more comfortable with. Onward, comrades! —In solidarity from the Overland team Take the survey here or by clicking on the image above. In taking this survey, you are entering into a small prize draw. If you are already a current subscriber, you’ll be in the running to win an Overland poster of your choice. If you’re not currently subscribed, you’ll have the chance to win a full annual print subscription. Thank you so much for your time.
