Published 30 October 202531 October 2025 · Main Posts Overland’s 2025 Subscriberthon! Editorial team Overland‘s Subscriberthon is back for another year, and we have so much to give you! So if you’ve been thinking of subscribing, renewing or gifting a subscription – do it now between October 31 – November 7! The Literary Journals in Australia report commissioned by Creative Australia last year emphasized two overwhelming points: that literary journals like Overland are indispensable to the formal richness and political diversity of Australian writing, and that they are radically unsustainable under current funding arrangements. The catastrophically myopic closure of our sister journal Meanjin last month has since tragically borne out that verdict. In subscribing to Overland you’re ensuring priceless opportunities and spaces for writers in a narrowing literary ecology, and a space of critical independence in a mediascape increasingly dominated by vested interest. Over on our main page and our socials, we’ve got a stacked week ahead of incredible fiction, poetry, art and nonfiction in store, courtesy of our treasured NZ-based online editor Giovanni Tiso. We’re honoured to be able to showcase the brave, unrelenting work of the writers, academics, activists, organisers, unionists and artists in our community. So, how does it work? From Friday 31 October to Friday 7 November, subscribe, renew, or donate over $40 for your chance to win. Your name will instantly go into three prize draws for triple the luck: a daily prize draw, a regional prize draw and a major prize draw! You’re not gonna want to miss out on your chance to win this year’s prizes, which include: A 5-night retreat at Wombat Bend (Yarra Valley), plus a $500 stipend from Overland to cover transport and food costs A full set of all five of our beautiful Overland prints A hamper from Chinese tea shop Kurra Corp Dance and drumming class vouchers from Melbourne Djembe Subscriptions to Australian Book Review, Griffith Review, Island, Kill Your Darlings, and Voiceworks and more Book packs from our kind friends at Giramondo, Fremantle Press, University of Queensland Press (UQP), Subbed In, Transit Lounge, Monash University Press, Hachette and more … and loads more! To join us in celebrating 71 years of radical literature (and to win some prizes while you’re at it), go to overland.org.au/shop or overland.org.au/donate between October 31 to November 7 and subscribe, renew or donate! Speaking of prizes, we are extremely thankful to our generous friends and supporters who made this year’s Subscriberthon possible! Read about them and their work here.
