As such, Overland is seeking a new poetry editor for the print magazine. The Overland poetry editor provides creative and strategic direction for Overland’s poetry publishing projects. The poetry editor will be an Overland subscriber with sufficient familiarity with the journal to publish high-quality poetry that is appropriate. The successful applicant will have: – a broad appreciation of contemporary poetry and poetics – an active presence in the poetry and literary worlds – an interest in advocating for poetry and literature – a commitment to progressive politics – a publication track record – opinions on poetics, politics and aesthetics – ideas on how to transform and expand the kinds of poetry Overland publishes, and how the Overland website could be used as a platform for such projects While this is not a full-time position, it is an ongoing, paid position (note, payment coincides with each print edition of the quarterly magazine). The position requires a minimum time commitment of a few days per month. Volunteer poetry readers! Overland is looking to start a team of poetry readers. This volunteer position only requires a time commitment of a few hours per month. As the poetry will be read and assessed online, the applicant can be based anywhere in Australia and New Zealand. Readers may be assigned up to twelve poems per month, and will be asked to assess whether each poem is/is not suitable for publication in Overland. Readers will liaise closely with Overland’s incoming poetry editor. Applicants will be Overland subscribers with sufficient familiarity with the journal to identify writing that suits the magazine. They will also have a keen interest in contemporary poetry. How to apply For the poetry editorship, please submit a brief CV (up to two pages), and a few paragraphs addressing the criteria above, and outlining your visions for poetry at Overland. We would be particularly interested in hearing your thoughts about politics and poetics. For the poetry reader positions, please submit a brief CV (up to two pages), and one or two paragraphs as to why you are the right person for the position.
