Jeff Sparrow is a writer, editor, broadcaster and Walkley award-winning journalist. He is a former columnist for Guardian Australia, a former Breakfaster at radio station 3RRR, and a past editor of Overland. His most recent book is a collaboration with Sam Wallman called Twelve Rules for Strife (Scribe). He works at the Centre for Advancing Journalism at the University of Melbourne.

  2. Yep ‘Surfin’ is a complete classic. Reminds me how disappointed I was to miss seeing Ernest R last time he was out. Oh well I got to see him the time before that with Monty Alexander and that was pretty special.

  3. I was just listening to Below the Bass Line, and was reminded of what a classic it is. There’s a fantastic clip on Youtube somewhere of Ernest and a bunch of other people (Jah Jerry, maybe?) talking about the early days of ska.
    Chris knows more about this than I do but there’s a really interesting story to be told about the role of Australians in those early ska times.
