Down by the carousel
                                           fishermen are back
in droves. Nights
                               there’s talk
of what comes next.
            A rainbow lingers
over the city—
                     the baby waves
to bollards, seagulls
                         couples sipping coffee
out of paper cups.
           The bitter edge to it—
what happens next? Painted horses stuck in pose.
Fins of dolphin
                         dark beyond the pier.
