Priya Kunjan

Priya Kunjan (they/them) is South Asian immigrant occupier living and working on Kulin Nation land as a Postdoctoral Research Fellow at RMIT University and a volunteer current affairs broadcaster at 3CR Community Radio. Their current research focuses on experiences of housing precarity in Melbourne, with an emphasis on private rental insecurity and public housing tenants facing estate redevelopment. In their work both within and outside the academy, they have ongoing interests in settler colonialism, racial justice and Indigenous sovereignty.

The QUT Symposium: holding the line against rising racism

Last weeks's QUT Symposium met in the staunch tradition of the Brisbane Blacks, who have fought for sovereignty, land rights, liberation and an end to racial violence for decades. It was a gathering of Elders, academics, organisers and frontline community workers who speak, theorise and embody the truth about race and racism in this place. It refused to clothe itself in multicultural platitudes about tolerance, or to speak about racism only in terms of individual prejudice.
