Cinema Nova offers the very best in new release arthouse films together with upmarket commercial releases, regular special film events and festivals, all in a warm, intimate environment of architecturally challenging design.
Nova had its beginnings as a twin arthouse cinema when it opened in August 1992 and has been expanding in size and diversity ever since. In 2004 three more screens opened including Melbourne’s first purely digital cinema screen. In 2010, just in time for Cinema Nova’s 18th birthday, a further 4 screens were added bringing the total to 15 auditoria. After extensive renovations in 2011, Cinema Nova introduced the Nova Bar.

The Sun originally opened in 1938 and was a single screen 1050 seat cinema – the most luxurious in the area. Most Saturday’s were fully booked at the Sun; both a booking office and ticket counter were used to handle the large crowds. The SUN BOOKSHOP was the original candy bar. Today we seat only 660 over 6 boutique cinemas, but, we still think our foyer gets mighty busy. The large auditorium has been divided into 4 cinemas and another 2 cinemas have recently been added to some land at the rear. Six stunning cinemas, all detailed in the art deco style, many with original details are now open to the public and screening the latest new release films.

Scribe marked its 35th year as a home-grown, wholly independent trade-publishing house in 2011. What started off in 1976 as a desire on publisher Henry Rosenbloom’s part to publish ‘serious non-fiction’ on a limited scale has turned into a company with over a dozen staff members and two scouts that publishes 60–65 non-fiction and fiction titles a year. Meanjin was founded in Brisbane by Clem Christesen (the name, pronounced Mee-an-jin, is derived from an Aboriginal word for the finger of land on which central Brisbane sits) in 1940. It currently receives funding from the university, the Literature Fund of the Australia Council for the Arts, CAL and Arts Victoria as well as receiving vital support through subscriptions and other sales. My Side of the Mountain Music is the new project from guitarist and songwriter Rebecca Perkins. Lessons are held in a centrally located Brunswick Studio. The focus of a lesson could be help with basic chord construction, musicianship and ear training, reading skills, writing/improvisation or performance. Rebecca has a particular interest in Alt.
