Melbourne Green School

The Green Institute, a non-profit organisation based in Australia, is grounded in the principles of ecology, social justice, democracy and non-violence. As part of its commitment to building the capacity of like-minded people, the institute is holding a two-day Green School on Saturday 30 and Sunday 31 July at Fitzroy High School, Falconer Road, North Fitzroy.

Come along and participate in forums which cover topics including leadership and gender, climate change and transport and climate and post-growth economics. There will also be hands-on workshops designed to enhance your campaigning and communication skills.

Trish Bolton

Trish Bolton’s unpublished novel, Stuck, was the recipient of a 2018 Varuna PIP Fellowship and a 2015 Varuna Residential Fellowship. In 2017, Stuck was longlisted for the Mslexia Women’s Novel Competition (UK) and Flash 500 Novel Competition (UK), and in 2016, was the joint-winner of the Fellowship of Australian Writers (FAW) Unpublished Manuscript Award. Her novel, Whenever You're Ready, will be published by Allen&Unwin in 2024.

    If you were interested in today’s comment in today’s Age from Associate Professor Joo-Cheong Tham about the need to change electoral financing laws, in response to revelations that the Liberals may have flouted the law on donations in the state election, come and hear more from Dr Tham on Saturday from 11.     As well, we’ve got Senator Richard Di Natale defining his health agenda (Sunday 9.30-11) alongside Professor Helen Keleher, Peter Fitzgerald running a workshop on post-growth economics, and Associate Professor Fiona Haines, former South African unionist Jeremy Baskin and Victorian Greens Leader Greg Barber on selling the economics of climate change. Political strategist and Greens Minister chief of staff Leanne Minshull and MP Adam Bandt will talk about multiparty government and climate change, Ann Wigglesworth, Andrew McLeod and Cam Walker will talk about population, broadcaster Richard Watts and Jon Perring from Bar Open and the Tote will talk about the arts and there’s a stack more – check out the program.

    Plus a stack of workshops, on working with the media, using social media, running groups, organising, and, from Overland’s own Trish Bolton, writing for the media (so if you like her blog, come and learn about her approach).

    If you want real political and policy debate, and a chance to learn hands-on skills, come along.
