1. The award is open to poets who have not yet had a collection of their work commercially published: that is, by a publishing house with commercial distribution.
2. Entrants must be Australian citizens (living anywhere) or permanent residents.
3. Selection will be made by Overland’s poetry editor, Peter Minter.
4. The judge’s decision will be final.
5. The winning poem will be published in Overland.
6. All submitted poems may be considered for publication in Overland.
7. Entries must be accompanied by a completed entry form and a $11.00 administration fee (the fee is only $5.50 for subscribers).
8. The name of the poet must not appear on the manuscript since all poems will be considered anonymously.
9. Two copies of each poem must be submitted.
10. Poems must be no more than 80 lines.
11. Multiple entries are permitted. A separate form is required for each entry.
12. Electronic submissions will not be considered.
13. The closing date is Tuesday 22 November 2011. Entries postmarked 22 November 2011 are acceptable. Late entries will not be considered.
14. Winners will be announced in March 2012. Include a stamped, self-addressed envelope if posted results are required.
15. The major prize is $6000.
16. Two runner-up prizes of $1000 each will be awarded at the discretion of the judge.
