An urgent message from the most important members of the Overland team

Hello! My name is Dingo, but everyone calls me Mirri. I was born in country NSW last summer and my parents are Jon and Evie and they do the stuff with the words. This year I moved to Melbourne so they could work at Overland and buy me lots of biscuits and toys. My favourite things are sleeping under mum and dad’s desk and bully sticks. They explained that they won’t always be working at our house and next year I’ll be going to daycare or visiting them at the office, but that’s alright because I’m an intern and I have a very special job – I’m the one that sniffs all of the journals. It’s hard work making sure everything gets a good sniff of approval before it can be sent out to all of my friends to read, but it’s alright because I get lots of belly scratches.

If you subscribe, I’ll get to sniff your copy to make sure it’s just right for you! The more copies we make, the more belly scratches I get. Mum and dad said if we can get enough subscribers I’ll get a raise, which sounds kind of exploitative if you ask me (join your union). You can win lots of cool stuff too, and don’t worry – I’ve sniffed all of it and it’s in good shape. No biscuits though. Don’t ask too many questions about that. I love all of my Overland friends lots! I hope you join our family, can’t wait to smell your copy.

Lots of love and sniffs and licks,

Dingo, Overland intern (but I’ll let you call me Mirri if you cuddle me)

This is Elsie. Her job at Overland is to protect our online editor from the unspecified but ever-present threat of neighbourhood mopeds, which she wards off by means of furious barking. She also checks all essays for dangling modifiers prior to publication. Elsie thinks you should subscribe to Overland because she understands there may be a relationship between overall subscriber numbers and the continued availability of premium dog treats.

We had been naughty. Well I hadn’t, I was over my book chewing phase by then, but Frankie and Harper barked at that security guard and I joined in because of solidarity. This is the photo of us in time out, but usually we were hard at work in the office, although I never had a special chair like Harper, nor did I wear reading glasses like Frankie. Good luck with this year’s Subscriberthon. It is well worth it to guard Overland’s future.

Love Rocket (Overland dogs are the best!)

  1. Hi all,
It made me smile to see the furry end of the editorial team – all with important and valued positions within the Overland community.
I have a Jack Russell, Buster, who along with being my best friend is my most discerning and vocal critic. I’m a mature-age student in my first year of a B.A. in Creative Writing and I find my study breaks are regulated by a ball dropped in my lap and a soft vocalisation from Buster whose message is quite clear. Who said that pooches can’t talk?

    Cheers

    James Faulkner
